New Income Streams via Amazon's KDP
Introduction to Print-on-Demand and Low-Content Books (Post #1 POD)
In this economy, working people like us need to multiply our income streams. But instead of taking a second or third job, I suggest another way: publishing low-content books through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing.
You say I can’t. I say why not?
You might say: “I can’t. I’m not an author.” Well, you don’t need to write long text. If you are a teacher, you created a lot of original worksheets and forms. If not, you can easily produce lined pages or journals. In other words, you can produce low-content books, which, as Amazon defines it, have “minimal or have no content on the interior pages…designed to be filled-in by the user….”
We recently finished a series where I showed you how I converted a PDF with a few pages into a 120-page paperback. In this series we will dig deeper and figure out practical applications.
Sell an Actual Product via Print-on-Demand (POD)
Amazon attracts many buyers. You can sell physical products via Amazon but you need to invest money for inventory and related expenses. I know. I’ve been selling educational products through Amazon’s FBA program for years; inventory and Amazon’s fees make up a chunk of my expenses. When I found Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) produces Print-on-Demand (POD) books, I was thrilled! It opened up a lot of possibilities. Why? POD works like your copier. If you need one copy, you produce one. If you need 50, you produce 50. That means if only one person orders your book, Amazon will print that one book. Before, printers need a minimum of, let’s say 500 copies, to produce a book. Now, you can upload a digital version of your book, list it in Amazon for a lot of people to buy, and KDP will print one or more if somebody buys it. That is what print-on-demand means!
Benefits
Before discussing how to produce low-content books, let me show you the benefits of self-publishing POD books.
Worldwide market - Amazon books sell in many countries. Statistica reported that Amazon dominates book sales anywhere including US, UK and other European countries.
Higher royalty rate - Amazon offers 60% royalty on paperback. If you want to know the rate given by others, read Reedsy’s post. Please note that he discussed eBooks also. In this series, we are talking about paperbacks only.
Can be done anywhere - you can live outside the USA while creating an income stream that earns you royalty in US Dollars, Euros and other currencies.
In my next posts, I will show you how you can start a Print-on-Demand income stream using Amazon’s KDP by self-publishing low content books. Subscribe for free and share with others so you’ll not miss a post.
